Life Story

Rags to Redemption

Lorien grew up in a broken, impoverished home where at least one parent was addicted to drugs. This is not a story she wanted, but it is a likely one based on statistics. She was first encouraged to abort when she became pregnant at 19 years old but she had enough strength to resist the initial pressure. Just three months after giving birth, she was pregnant again and was coerced to abort; it was no longer a suggestion and was reinforced by the threat of homelessness.  She was an overwhelmed young mother with no resources, depending on her boyfriend, who resented the burden of responsibility. She only knows that she was six weeks pregnant because that’s what the abortionist said during the sonogram that she refused to look at. She closed her eyes and turned away in obvious distress.

She thought it would be over quickly, but she overestimated her ability to recover emotionally and completely dismissed the spiritual ramifications. She judged herself unfit as a mother and never became pregnant again. At 36 years old, almost fifteen years later, God called her out of her self-imposed prison to begin healing and speaking about her experience.

Today, she resides in North Florida, where she advocates for the humanity of the preborn in the legislature, cultivates pregnancy resources for rural communities, and speaks about her experience to those in the church who need healing from injury related to abortion. Though her journey began as a sidewalk counselor, she quickly advanced to the Florida Capitol and beyond. She obtained full circle redemption when she spoke in support of Florida’s Heartbeat Bill in a Senate Committee. Today, she is a pregnancy center volunteer, a nationwide post-abortive recovery coach, and a certified doula. She is a champion of life in every sense of the word and understands that the heart is ultimately where this battle is won or lost.

When she isn’t on assignment from the Lord, she spends most of her time with her family. She enjoys gardening, baking, and writing. She is an aspiring author working on her first memoir, which recounts her powerful journey to faith and unlikely path into politics. Through her words, powered by the gospel in Christ, she aims to reconcile the hearts of mothers to their unborn in heaven and inspire those in positions of authority to govern according to righteousness.
